Why You Would Want To Disable Comments In WordPress?

With all the hype around social media posts, likes and comments you might ask yourself why it could be good to disable your comments function. The answer really comes down to what your goals for your website are. If you are planning on blogging to generate traffic to your site then I highly recommend you do not remove comments. On the other hand, if your goal is to bring viewers to a landing page where you are trying to collect email or phone info then comments are really not needed and can actually be potentially harmful if not managed correctly.

How To Disable Comments In WordPress

The Disable Comments Plugin allows you or your web master to globally disable comments on any post type (posts, pages, attachments, etc.) so that these settings cannot be overridden for individual posts. It also removes all comment-related fields from edit and quick-edit screens. On multisite installations, it can be used to disable comments on the entire network.

Also, comment-related items can be removed from the Dashboard, Widgets, the Admin Menu and the Admin Bar.

Important note: Use this plugin if you don’t want comments at all on your site (or on certain post types). Don’t use it if you want to selectively disable comments on individual posts – WordPress already lets you do that.

Conclusion: Install Disable Comments To Quickly Disable Comments on WordPress

After using this free plugin for more than a year on some of our client sites, I’m glad to report we have only seen positive results.

While this plugin does work well in eliminating spam comments, there are also many other factors to consider when trying to improve your WordPress website. 2 of those main factors are finding the best web hosting and optimizing your images which I have covered in other posts.
